-Healthy HOI 'Housing' Toolkit is now online. Information in the toolkit includes the PHA application process, subsidized housing information, websites and resources for apartment seekers, shelter information, and homeownership information (for those interested and those purchasing). If you have any suggestions that you feel should be added to the toolkit; please let myself, Toby Gardner or Frank Disney know.
Discussion:
- Is there transitional housing or shelters available for youth?
Children’s Home in our community (Peoria County) as I used to manage that program for 15 years or so. And just as a point of clarification the state of Illinois classifies a homeless youth as 18-24 but does provide another program statewide in every county that is to address the needs of accompanied youth (10-17) that may initially appear as homeless and if they actually are homeless then this program is to assist in meeting the needs of those youth. The Center for Youth & Family Solutions provides some of these same services in Tazewell and Woodford counties but not sure about Fulton. You could contact Bruce Mayer over there at bmayer@cyfsolutions.org or at 323-6600.
Children’s Home and SSOC are partnering on providing transitional housing for homeless youth at our Monroe Avenue site. We have set aside 3 efficiency units for youth that CH is working with in an effort to allow the youth to have time to stabilize before moving into more permanent housing. CH is the gatekeeper on who goes into these units. You could contact Jeff Campbell at jcampbell@chail.org or at 687-7504 over at CH for more information about the program.

-Where can someone go to get new windows put on their home, due to mold issue? It was suggested to visit the Peoria County Health Department, there are two Lead Hazard Removal Programs. These can cover replacements of wooden windows (separate grant), or replacement of windows, siding, doors or paint. Call 309-679-6612 or visit www.peoriacounty.org/pcchd/lead for more specific details.
The Weatherization Program through PCCEO may also replace windows, doors and siding based upon lack of efficiency. All houses (rent or owned) will be entered into an application process. This program is good for landlords or for tenants. Ameren IL credits could be rewarded for homes that run more efficiently.
-Section 8 Program Update:
All Section 8 applications from August 2014 have been entered onto the system! Please ensure that your clients have all information updated including preferences such as employment and class schedules. The first round of letters to this initial group may got out as early as March-April 2015.
-Upcoming Non-Owner Occupied Training through the City of Peoria to be held the week of February 16th . The dates posted below are those of the sessions open to new landlords to learn about the registration process, applicable fees, etc. Both Peoria Housing Authority and Prairie State Legal services will be in attendance providing information.
