The feedback I'm getting from my clients is that there is a lengthy waiting list at Crittenton and if they make it off the waiting list, their are many days when childcare isn't available. Reliable daycare is an important component in getting and keeping a job or going to school, so I'm trying to find better options. In fact, I personally called Crittenton and was given the runaround. They couldn't even tell me what the eligibility guidelines or requirements were. Just said they could put a client on the waiting list and they'll find out if they are eligible when they get to them.
Childcare connections providers are not paid during a job search unless an individual is on TANF, from my understanding...

I think you're right about Childcare Connections only paying for it if the person is a TANF recipient. As for Crittenton, maybe we could try to get a new rep from there in our circle again since Ky left? What about Head Start programs? That wouldn't help if the child was iddy biddy, but if they were Head Start or Early Head Start age? Isn't that more of a pre-pre school type thing than a daycare where the parent wouldn't necessary NEED their child to go there but could send them there?
I think you've touched on a very good point that could definitely use some brainstorming!

I agree this is a good point to brainstorm. It appears that it is a need within the community that is not being met by Crittenton as things are now. Do you want to meet next week when Toby is back to do the brainstorming? Would it be useful to have someone from Crittenton and maybe someone from Head Start participate in that? Or, would you want to address that in your roundtable meeting?

Good morning! I am sorry to have been absent during this great thread re. child care. Child Care Connection did not have a TANF component to receive child care subsidy, but strict economic guidelines. Perhaps those guidelines coincide w/ TANF guidelines, but one does not need to be on TANF to receive the subsidy for child care. If one is working 2nd or 3rd shift CCC can give the parent a list of in-home providers willing to take the subsidy as partial payment. They also give out lists of 1st shift in-home licensed providers. I am sure the parent also has a payment as well, which will slide according to income. My concern is that at the last Roundtable meeting the CCC reps said that if the new tax referendum does not go through there will be a waiting list to receive subsidy. This would be dire for the working class. The other concern is that facilities that usually took CCC, like Rogy's, are backing off because they aren't getting paid. This limits accessibility. Let's try to get a group together to discuss day care. Perhaps a Roundtable meeting w/ a new Crittenton worker, the CCC reps, maybe the Early Learning Center on University (as they are the ONLY child care facility that provides 3rd shift day care (to my knowledge)?
