Can anyone recommend a psychiatrist for a low-income client who does not have the medical card? She lives in Tremont. Thank you! -Toby (FamilyCore)

Toby - Could she go to the Heartland Clinic in Peoria or the Human Service Center in Peoria?

The Heartland clinic would be a good place to start.

Heartland has psychiatrist Dr Heritch, MD,and some support services provided by a counselor there as well who can coordinate services. I don't know of options in Tazewell but wondhttp://healthyhoi.proboards.com/post/new/3er if an MD can help?

I think that is an excellent idea. I have been to see that doctor before. The Heartland Clinic is a very good resource in Peoria County. Sharon, are there any low-income psychiatrists in Pekin? That maybe closer for the client needs.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. i don't think this client can afford a copay at Heartland and has no transportation to Peoria. Pekin, yes. The Human Service Center only serves Peoria Co. as far as I know and used to only give 12 hours of free services per year so unless one has a medical card, an assessment is about all the 12 hours will cover. You have me thinking, though, about Sonja Evens at Heartland on Garden and the fact that her copay is much cheaper- like $10 for case management. If this client could get to one appt. w/ her in Peoria, maybe Sonja will know of a Pekin area resource.

In addition to trying Heartland, since she lives in Tremont, there might be an outside chance that Pekin hospital may have a link to a program closer to her area that we may not be aware of... just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. I called Pekin Hospital and they had me call the Physicial Referral line and I was given Tazewood Center for Wellness. Big circle back to the main provider for Tazewell County. It did confirm for me, however, that if you don't have the medical card you pay a substantial fee. First, one must see a therapist for 2 or 3 sessions at $50 per session (that is at the reduced rate) and then if the therapist refers to Dr. Attulari, one pays over that amt. for an appt. w/ him.

Sorry I'm just now joining this thread, but what is the reason this client doesn't have a medical card? Does she need assistance applying for Medicaid Expansion? What is the urgency of her need-would she be able to hold off until she is approved for Medicaid?

Jessica- I think she should apply for the Medicaid Expansion. Should she just go to DHS and have someone help her? She doesn't have a computer or Smart phone so cannot get online to apply. The "facilitators" to connect people w/ health care plans are no longer available via phone are they? (and Jess- remember this is a hypothetical client so no worrying emotionally about connecting this practice person to services; don't want you worried about her.)
